First Visit to a Champagne House

We had so much fun the previous Sunday that we decided to head back to Sainte Genevieve this past weekend.  With bright blue skies and temperatures that never got out of the 70s, there was no way that we could stay inside!  This time, we brought Jean along for the adventure.  And what an adventure it turned out to be!

Thanks to a groupon, our first stop was the Crown Valley Champagne House.  This is not too far away from the other wineries, but it is in Farmington, Missouri.  It was definitely not like the others.  This was just a large building set on a plot of land across the street from a local park.  No sweeping views or anything like that.  We did joke about how parents might appreciate its proximity to the park!

Crown Valley Champagne House is part of the Crown family of properties located in this area.  It is the first and only true champagne house in the Midwest.  The facility produces their line of champagne using both the traditional champagne method and the Charmat method.  Before building it, several members of the Crown management toured many of the world's  best sparkling wineries.

Tours of the facility are available, but not on Sundays.

While Jean and I were checking out the simple tasting room and receiving our 7 tastings, Tony found a snack of his own.  I would share which wines and champagnes I tried if I could find our wine passport book.  I will say that all of them were much better than the bird Crown Valley wines that we tried the week before!

Tony has a slight obsession with pepper mills and a MAJOR obsession with flashlights.  I'm not really sure why a pepper mill needs a light, but I'm still shocked that this didn't come home with us.
